Right, I thought we needed a place to went and or rant about stupid things that annoy us.
And today I am going to rant about Final Fantasy XII(12). more specifically, its gambit system.
Now as all of you probably already know, I like Final Fantasy, for some unexplained reason. I am also rather good at grinding, earning me the nickname "Grindking". Right, and ff12 is one of the better final fantasies I have played. Not anywhere near ff7 but then again, who is?
Anyway, in ff12 there is this thing called the gambit system. Basically, it is a system for implenting macros on the characters that makes them respond to certain conditions. For instance, one gambit my characters have is that they heal each other when one of them reacheds 30 % of full HP. another gambit is to attack nearby enemies.
Now, gambits initiate without my command, i just set the gambit and when the condition is met, it plays out. this is to make the game easier, because controlling all three characters in a party at the same time in real time, like it is in ff12, is a hassle.
But this gambit system can be raped so badly, its not even funny. all you need is some skill with the system, the correct gambits, knowledge how battles mostly turn out and a place that spawns at least nearly infinent enemies.
what you get is auto-grind. Yes, auto-grind, levelling characters without doing anything yourself.
On my first playthrough, I discovered a secret dungeoun where it spawns lots of enemies, rather strong ones as well. I went there to grind up lots of levels. I actually sat there and did things myself. but then it hit me, I can just get them to do things themselves, my characters I mean.
So, after some careful calibration of their gambits, I sent them to the dungeon and put down the controller. Back then, I had two characters at lvl 78ish, two at 70ish and two at 50ish. Yeah, I usually use two characters and exchange the third.
Now, I have four lvl 99(max) and one lvl 81 and one lvl 55. the not fully levelled characters are being lead by a fully lvled one now.
And I did not grind them up myself, it was all gambit work.
Its ridicolous. With enough skill and insight, I was able to set the gambits so that no matter what, my party was always able to fight. If one of them died, the other two ressed him, if they have low HP, they heal. If they are afficted with status effects, they negate them. If they are facing enemies weak against fire, they use fire. if they are facing flying enemies, they use ranged attacks...you get the idea. I have discovered auto-grind, and it has totally fucked up the game.
I can now send in my three favourite characters against the final boss, put down the controller and watch as they kick the crap out of him.
What's the point of me playing when my characters can do everything themselves? Its like playing chess, only the chess pieces are doing the moves for you.
Nowadays, me playing ff12 consists of me putting it on, going to the dungeoun and letting my characters grind away while I read a book, fap to porn or something else constructive.
In fact, while I have been typing here, they have continued fighting the baddies, grinding up. Hold on, let me check...yup, now the party consists of one lvl 99, one lvl 82 and one lvl 56.
my point is hopefully made.

If you knew that from the get go, you would not need to play the game. hahahah. The new commercial for the game should read: "NOW behold ff12, the only game you don't need to play... Buy it now! Never play again!"

What is great though is that it works great when you want to replay a game choosing other options, just to get all the story options. You don't need to go through all the boring shit.

unfortunately, it does not work as well on low levels. The characters have to be strong enough to survive shit without the player saving their sorry asses all the time. and like I said, it takes skill to set the gambits up right. after posting about the gambits earlier, I rearanged some of them and suddenly my guys started dying left and right.
I fixed it of course, now they are even better than earlier.
I have started a new playthorough where I focus much more on the story, ff12 has a great story I think, pluss the princess has a nice ass, you should check her out, her name is Ashe. search up her pic on google, you'll like her skirt.
Anyway, in my new playthrough, I do sometimes let them fight on their own, but they aren't good enough, nor are there enough gambits awailable yet for me to let them completely on their own.
I think about half through the game, that is the earliest you can do this 'cheat'. Can't call it a cheat, more like a strategy or whatever.

Oh, and about my way not being very good for lowlvl. I just found a guid that lets someone take advantage of the same thing as low as lvl 35. Woot. On my second playthrough my characters are lvl 22. I can soon powerlvl like hell. Imagine coming to the halfway point in the game, lvl 99. That would be tha bomb. No one would be able to beat me.
I'm so looking forward to this. And the guide is actually a bit better than my way, since my way demands some attention. the guides way lets the trick go on for ever.
It is also a excellent way to grind gold, by the way. and at lowlvl, gold is a shortage in ff12.

A browser hijacker is a virus, a trojan of sorts that basicly hijacks your internet browser just like you'd hijack a car. It is made because someone want to monitor what you do. They can also snoop up all kinds of passwords and the like on your computer, and use your bandwidth for no good deeds. Probably how my wow account was hijacked...

Oh and as to further strenghen my point about that gambit system, the day before yeasterday I finally found the beast I needed to kill before I could take on the strongest beast in the game. No, not the final boss, he's way easier than this thing. Its called Yaizmat if you wondered.
Anyway, the battle with the second greatest beasty took me around two hours, not kidding. two hours of combat. Then I am given the quest to fight Yaizmat. And I did...
...And I am still fighting.
FOR TWO FUCKING DAYS!!!!!!!!
the fucker has like 50 million hp and the most I can do damagewise is 9999...that is, until he gets gay and puts up this ward that makes it so the damage cap is 6999 and I can't remove the fucking ward.
Luckily, you can leave the area, heal up, save, go shop some more items, screw your wife, raise a kid and then come back and continue the battle without Yaizmat healing up. He does buff himself some, but that is easilly dispelled.
Oh, and then there is his attacks. He has at least two that causes instant death to even fully healed characters. Only one buff, shell, can help against the instant death. Most of the fight is spent with one of my characters attacking and one rezing the knocked out third.
For the most part, the gambit system can handle the fight, after I've tweaked the shit out of it. I don't know how many adjustments from my normal system I've had to do in order to even survive this fight, let alone win.
But I'm doing it. he's down to like ten million hp now, but acording to the guys on the net, that's when he starts getting real gay, litterally spamming the instant death shite.
Even my mom, MY MOM, is interested in this fight, if only to see what lies behind it. This is litterally the longest fight I have ever taken part in. Not the most difficult, no, I have a party of six where only two aren't lvl 99, so he isn't difficult, just damn right annoying.
What the fuck did Squareenix smoke when they decided that to extend gameplay, which I had already managed to make last over 160 hours, they had to put in two boss fights that lasts multiple hours each.

I mean, christ, I defeated the meanest, badest most powerful thing in the entire game and they give me crap I can't use for shit, some money (about 0.1 % of what I had from before) and a heartfelt thanks.

That's it. If I start playing this game from the beginning again, I will not fight that boss. Once was one time too many for me.
