(prepare for Warcraft rant if anyones interested in the subject How-to-WoW: PvP Sleep )
PvP in WoW is f*cking ruthless!!

Only three things works in wow pvp, if you dont specialize yourself 100% in one of these things you wont even be able to kill the afk'ers.

1. Teh Pwn
Basically deal as much damage as you can, max your gear, stats, talent points, and attack combination for nothing but killing the other dude before he kills you, most people go for this.
Some situations may require diferent approaches, this aspect focuses on interrupting and stunning while dealing as much damage as possible in as little time as doable, not giving your enemy time to retaliate.
Rogues, mages, hunters and warlocks are forced to do this. (paladins and priests trying this will fail horribly)

2. Teh Healzor
Keeping yourself and those around you alive and kicking is a team effort and works really well, basically you cast a sh*tload of healing spells and concentrate on staying away and avoiding all attackers, works very well with a few Teh Pwn on your side.
This choice is chosen often by PvE'ers, as they are either chickens or dont know how to kill in pvp by themselves.
Shamans, Druids, Priests and Paladins are the only ones able to pull this off. (Blood DK's dont come close, dont ask)

3. Teh Elite
The hardest choice for a pvp'er, wearing out your opponent through defensive skills and avoidance/interruption is hard to master and very few can pull it off successfully.
It has the advantage of killing your enemy slowly through soaking the damage they deal and silence their spells, that even if you fail and they kill you all of their cooldowns will be spendt, and whoever of your allies shows up within 3 minutes can kill your target without even trying, also a team effort.
Warriors, Driuds, Paladins, Priests and Death Knights are the only ones able to pull this off. (some rare cases of frost mages may count)

Common terms in Warcraft PvP:

Zerging - The technique of overcoming a defense or enemy offensive by sheer numbers, hoping that the lag might take the enemy out, + you get a buttload of honor kills.
Defending- Holding a vital position or Flag free of enemy contact, few willingly do this as they dont feel like standing around waiting to be attacked, but many battles are determined by a good defense.
Camping - hanging around spawn locations and taking out the ones who doesnt seem strong enough to put up a fight, mostly a griefing or ego-stroking deal, but in some battles can be advantagous.
Recapping- If something is lost, either position or flag, you need it back, simply in saying, harder in doing, especially if someone stronger than you chooses to Defend.
Leeching- Standing around afk or being close to battle to reap the benefits without doing anything is considered leeching, the scum of the world (of warcraft) does this all the time, and these people need food poisening.
Bitchin' - Spending most of ones tim typing stuff in the battleground or arena chat, harrasing your allies verbally and insulting their mothers, occasionally telling Chuck Norris jokes, people who respond to this are wasting hteir time and therefore also Bitchin'.

Last Words.
A thing a pvp'er must always have in min is choosing their battles, for any sane player going for 2 players while alone is pretty much suicide, if your lucky or skilled you'll take one down with you, if you ever manage to kill two enemies while alone on open ground you can be certain they were noobs.
There is no shame in ganging up on the enemy, if you notice someone is fighting and your ally is either winning or losing there is absolutely nothing wrong with interfering, its an aspect of pvp any sane player should be aware of 24/7/12/100.
Being able to tell when a player is much more powerful than yourself is a huge advantage, as long as you are mounted you have the chance to escape a potentially deadly opponent, and again there is no shame about fleeing in PvP, choosing to fight someone with 52k HP while you dont even have 10k left for yourself is not honorable nor wise, getting slaughtered by own volition is just dumb.
Another thing to be very cautious of is The Nerd Rage, seriously, this shit will utterly consume you if you arent careful with it, you have to be aware that before you can ever master PvP truly, your going to die a lot, and although its frustrating that you can off a weakling in 1o1 because theres a healer hidden in a bush somewhere throwing healing spells like hillary clinton throwing lies at Barack obama during the election, you musnt let it get to you, these things happen all the time, adapting and overcoming is far better than ragequitting, bitchin' on forums (lol @ me) or starting to cry like a baby.

Never give up! The spirit of PvP is a real World Of Warcraft roleplaying theme as well, going through hell and back to slay the enemy is what the game was about in the first place.

next up, coverage on class combination in battles and their jobs.
